Fixed Braces
Achieving a healthy, straight smile is a journey that relies on three essential pillars: pressure, time, and cooperation. We utilize modern orthodontic techniques to guide your child’s teeth into their ideal positions, ensuring both beauty and function.
How Braces Work
Orthodontic treatment typically involves fixed appliances, such as brackets, bands, and wires. These components work together to apply gentle, constant pressure on the teeth, gradually moving them into the correct alignment over time.
The Key to Success: Patient Cooperation
While our specialists provide the tools, the success of the treatment depends heavily on the patient. To ensure the best results in the shortest time, we ask our patients to:
-
Maintain Excellent Hygiene: Keeping teeth and brackets clean to prevent staining and decay.
-
Watch the Diet: Avoiding hard or sticky foods that can break brackets or wires.
-
Limit Sugary Drinks: Preventing enamel damage during treatment.
-
Follow Instructions: Wearing elastics (rubber bands) exactly as prescribed by the orthodontist.
-
Stay Consistent: Continuing to visit your general dentist every 3–6 months for professional cleanings.
What to Expect During Treatment
Orthodontic care is a personalized process. Depending on the complexity of your child’s case, treatment can range from a few months for a “touch-up” to several years for comprehensive bite correction.
-
Maintenance Visits: You will typically visit our office every 6 to 10 weeks. These appointments are vital for adjusting wires, tracking progress, and ensuring the teeth are moving correctly.
-
Specialized Tools: To speed up treatment or improve results, we may incorporate additional tools such as palatal expanders (to widen the jaw) or Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs).
Life After Braces: The Retainer Phase
Once the teeth are in their perfect positions, the braces are removed—but the work isn’t quite finished! To help the teeth “stay put” and prevent them from shifting back, we fit each patient with a removable or permanent retainer. Consistent retainer wear is the only way to protect your orthodontic investment for years to come.
